Derby, sired by Bentley is another of our American Champions. He's the largest of our males and has the sweetest personality of any of our dogs. The classic Golden Retriever disposition. His favorite things are water and soft stuffed toys! He always greets you at the door with at least three soft plushy toys stuffed in his mouth at the same time. He's big on swimming and loves everything and everybody, other dogs, kids, cats, our 15 chickens - all of it!
We nicknamed him "Doof". If you could see him with a mouth full of toys trying to sit on your lap, you would understand...
I say he was named after the automobile built in Derby England by Bentley Motor Cars in the mid-1930's
- If his Dad's name is Bentley, then he's named Derby after one of the early models of the car...
OK, Janice says, "Derby" is derived from his Registered name "...Triple Crown.."
- Obviously she is referring to the Kentucky Derby which is one of the three grand horse races
No matter how he got his name, our Derby's a Champion, winning a 4 point major 12/16/2001, after numerous reserves to majors !
